Ketamine Assisted Therapy

When Talk Therapy Isn’t Enough, There’s a New Path to Healing

You’re not alone. At Clinic for Healing and Change, we offer Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) as a powerful, science-backed treatment for individuals who haven’t found relief through conventional methods. Our experienced, compassionate team is here to guide you safely through a healing process that’s rooted in both cutting-edge neuroscience and deep emotional support.

The Power of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy

In recent years, groundbreaking research has revealed the transformative potential of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy. While treatments like Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) have been utilized for decades, they are now gaining increasing attention for their rapid and long-lasting effects. Ketamine therapy offers a powerful solution for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health challenges, as well as those who feel they’ve plateaued in their current therapy.

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legal, safe, and highly effective medication used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more. Unlike traditional antidepressants, which can take weeks to show effects, ketamine has a unique ability to rapidly enhance mood and promote emotional well-being. Its effects can begin within 1–2 hours after treatment and can provide lasting relief.

The Brain Science Behind Ketamine

Research has shown that ketamine works by affecting brain chemistry in ways that conventional antidepressants cannot. It primarily targets glutamate, the brain’s most abundant neurotransmitter, which plays a key role in learning, memory, and mood regulation. By increasing the release of glutamate, ketamine promotes the growth of new neural connections, a process called neuroplasticity. This can help “rewire” the brain, allowing individuals to break free from negative thought patterns and emotional states.

Additionally, ketamine’s effects are associated with enhanced connectivity in areas of the brain linked to emotional regulation, providing immediate and long-lasting relief from conditions like depression and PTSD.

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy combines the therapeutic use of ketamine—a legal, fast-acting medication—with guided psychotherapy to support healing, emotional processing, and personal growth. At our practice, we use KAT as a powerful tool to help clients access deeper insights, shift rigid patterns, and process trauma or emotional pain in a safe, supported environment.
Ketamine can quiet the inner critic, soften defenses, and open access to subconscious material that might be harder to reach in traditional talk therapy. When paired with skilled therapeutic guidance, these experiences can lead to profound emotional shifts and lasting transformation.

Think of your brain like a snowy hillside.

Over time, your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors create well-worn sled paths in the snow—routes your mind takes automatically, even if they lead somewhere painful, like self-doubt, anxiety, or hopelessness. These grooves can get so deep that it feels impossible to steer the sled in a different direction.

Ketamine is like a fresh snowfall.
It doesn’t erase your history or your story—but it softens the deep ruts. It gives your brain the opportunity to carve out new paths, allowing you to think differently, feel differently, and act differently.

That’s where therapy comes in. While ketamine lays down the fresh snow, therapy helps you choose a new direction—and keep practicing the new path until it becomes the default. The combination of insight (from the ketamine experience) and integration (from therapy) helps those new patterns stick.

Yes, when used appropriately and under medical supervision, ketamine is considered safe and well-tolerated. We work closely with licensed medical providers who assess for safety and determine dosing. Your physical and emotional safety are always our top priority.

Each journey includes preparation, the ketamine experience itself, and integration.

  • Preparation: We meet to explore your intentions, address any questions, and set the stage for your experience.
  • Ketamine session: Depending on the format (oral lozenge or intramuscular injection), you’ll receive ketamine in a comfortable, private setting. A therapist is present to provide emotional support, help you navigate the journey, and ensure safety throughout.
  • Integration: After your journey, we help you process insights, connect meaning, and ground the experience in your daily life.
  • Most clients find the ketamine experience to be calming and even profound. The effects typically last around 45 minutes, during which you may feel a sense of detachment from your body or a shift in perception that is expansive and insightful. You’ll be comfortably reclining while the medicine takes effect, and during this time, your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced.
  • Once the effects subside, we’ll use the remainder of the session to help you process and reflect on your experience. While it may be difficult to fully articulate what occurred during the session, many clients find that the insights they gain are clear and lasting. Research indicates that the benefits to mood and brain function can last up to two weeks following each session.
  • For best results, a series of 4–6 sessions, typically spaced about two weeks apart, is recommended. This can provide lasting relief from symptoms for up to six months.

Yes. Ketamine is a prescription medication, so a medical assessment is required. We either partner with trusted prescribers or refer you to qualified medical professionals for screening, approval, and dosing. Once you're cleared, we work collaboratively to support your therapeutic journey.

The number of sessions varies by individual. Some clients benefit from a series of 3–6 sessions, while others may choose to continue with more long-term KAT work. We’ll tailor the process based on your goals, progress, and preferences.

KAT can be deeply meaningful, but it’s not the right fit for everyone. It’s not recommended for individuals with certain medical or psychiatric conditions (such as a history of psychosis or uncontrolled high blood pressure). During your intake and medical screening, we’ll carefully assess whether KAT is safe and appropriate for you.

Currently, most insurance providers do not cover Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), as it is still considered an “off-label” use of ketamine, despite its growing body of scientific support. While the medication itself may sometimes be reimbursed, the psychotherapy component—an essential part of the healing process—is typically not covered.

However, some clients are able to receive partial reimbursement by submitting a superbill to their insurance for out-of-network coverage. We’re happy to provide documentation and assist you with this process if your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits.

Integration and preparation sessions can often be held virtually. However, ketamine administration must take place in-person for safety and therapeutic support. If you're working with an outside prescriber, we’ll collaborate with them to coordinate care.

Reach out to schedule a consultation. We’ll walk you through the process, assess your goals, and help determine whether KAT is a good fit for you. From there, we can coordinate with our medical partners or refer you for a medical evaluation if needed.
